A day in Charleston

Cool day but not windy!  we headed to Charleston to take a tour.  We had not toured the city yet and it is almost time to leave!  The tour was about and hour and forty five minutes, it was very good.  We learned a lot about the history and houses of Charleston. In fact the hotel we stayed in last weekend began as a burlap factory!

the oldest and continuous operation fire station in the US...

We had a great southern lunch at the Swamp Fox restuarant at the Francis Marion hotel.   We started with home made (restuarant made) piemento cheese and bread, fabulous!  Eric had the shrimp po boy and I had the cream of potato soup, very tasty and the shirmp with grits, it was sooo good...

after lunch we walked the streets, in and out of stores but looking for sweets..  found a few candy shops.  we were looking for fudge pralines and something else.  we had no idea what the something else was so we had to hit all of the candy stores, some of them twice.  we found the fudge pralines but decided to wait until we came back by to pick them up.  (not sure why we had to wait, they are really not that heavy but..) so by the time we get back, in about 15 minutes they are SOLD OUT!  needless to say, I am not happy....  but the sister store a few blocks away had at least 2 trays when we went in there so there was hope.  we walked very briskly to the next store and was able to purchase our two fudge pralines...  I might need to have some air shipped in when we get back home.

We had neighbors when we got back to the campground from Indiana.  they were not there but their RV was set up.  they showed up a bit later, then another truck came, then another truck with dogs!  hmmm....  we have to know what is happening, of course we had our theory. It was 6 men, in camo and strapping on knives etc..  hmmm...  can they be going fishing?  No that is not it they don't have a boat but an ATV, deer hunting? No, they don't hunt deer at night, although they do use dogs for deer hunting.  They were going for Hogs!  they left out just about 6pm.  we think they got back at about 1 am.  not sure if they got one or not. will need to go see.....  stay tuned.
