Day 2

We woke up to a temperature of 34 deg. F.   We went for a 2 ½ hour hike at the park.  We did not bring our blaze orange gear.  Mistake! We need to bring them next year.  We did not see any hunters but heard gun shots.
We have not seen the complete movie “The Long, Long Trailer” with Lucy and Desi, but do understand the “rock” thing.  This park is filled with beautiful rock formations, makes you want to pick one up…  but we have heard about Lucy’s troubles with picking up rocks and hauling a trailer.  So we just took pictures.
The observation tower at the park is at 1715 feet above Sea Level.  This is the highest peak in southern Wisconsin.  We could see Illinois and Iowa from the top of the tower.
There are a lot of shagbark hickory nut trees in the area.  We cracked one open, it tasted like a walnut. We collected a handful so we can make cookies with cranberries.

After lunch we left the park to do some sightseeing.  First was  The Cave of the Mounds.  A cave worth seeing.  As it is the middle of the week and November  we were the only two for the tour.  It was beautiful inside.  Colors and formations were a sight to see.

We then went to Little Norway, but it was not open!  Next to Mt Horeb, known for its trolls scattered throughout the town.  And lastly we went to New Glarus.  Lots of cows on parade and THE OSCAR MEYER Wienermobile!!
For dinner we picked up Niece Hanna at the University of Wisconsin.  Great way to end the day.
